This is a compensated review by PowerAde Play and BlogHer. I was given POWERADE PLAY to try in my own home, and was paid for my time to write the review. I was not paid to write a positive review and all thoughts written below were my own.

My two big kids are active in sports, specifically soccer and softball. Adam and I think it's important for them to do something physical in their spare time (and our school system no longer has PE, thank-you-so-much-budget cuts...) and we both like the teamwork and camaraderie that happens in organized sports.

Since they are of different ages, and are in different leagues for both of their chosen sports, our family often spends the day at the soccer or softball field. The whole day. Because of this, I usually need to bring along a cooler or bag of snacks and lunches. Since we have allergies, we don't hit up the snack bar all that often. And usually it's closed (thank-you-again budget cuts...).

Even though I've never signed up to be a Team Mom, I'm around an awful lot, and do what I can to support the coaches. Most of the time this means just sitting and watching, and helping with snack distribution
.

When I was first approached to write a review for POWERADE PLAY, I hesitated. I'm not a sports drink kind of person, and I rarely let my kids drink regular juice, much less a sweet brightly colored punch drink.

In fact, before I had children of my own, I'd see kids with the bright red or orange or blue faces at the park and think to myself that I would never let my kids drink that kind of stuff. But reality sank in, and I agreed to do the review for the following reasons:

1) There is no high fructose corn syrup. NONE! I read every single bottle, and couldn't find it anywhere.

2) The bottles are 12-ounce size and the entire bottle is only 60 calories. SIXTY!

3)
My kids are growing up. I hate it that they are, and I'm tempted to Google how to stop time the way Evie could on Out of This World, but the fact of the matter is they are getting older. And bigger. And they don't want to drink organic 100% juice out of little boxes or pouches in front of their friends on the sports field.

4) The juice is in a bottle, and not in a pouch or box, so it can be re-sealed. I like that the bottles can be tossed into a sports bag or a backpack without leaking colored stick everywhere.

5) Adam plays tennis on the weekend and likes to drink sports drinks along with bottled water when he plays, and I'd rather buy one product only then a few different kinds. We both really like the orange, an awful lot.

So how did they taste?
My children hands-down loved the orange and the blue. We were in charge of snack at softball on Saturday, and they handed out the purple and red juices so they could hoard all of the orange and blue for themselves.

I tried all of the drinks and thought they tasted good, and weren't as sweet and concentrated as that other sports drink.
We had quite a few of our little neighborhood friends try this sports drink, since we were given so many bottles.

The only flavor that drew criticism from the kids was the purple. They thought it tasted a bit like medicine (yet they still drank it...?). Weird.

The great big question: Would I buy this?
Yes. I would. I really would. I've already noticed that there are 6-packs at my local Safeway, and last week it was on sale. I'm going to have to turn in my organic hemp and tye-dyed clothing and my California Hippie membership card.

P.S. my friend Lisa just emailed and said her daughters loved the blue, and wanted to know where to buy it. Lisa is just as Hippie as I am/want to be, and this was a big surprise to read.

  1. Since having children- I have changed. I noticed that there are lot of things I wouldv'e never done that I do. Powerade rocks.

  2. I'm an active gym guy, so i'm constantly looking for lower-cal products to hydrate, that are better than water. this looks great!

  3. I don't use sports drinks, but my husband and my sons do. And of course I've changed after becoming a mom, in so many different ways.

  4. I'm not really a sports drink person and you bet, since becoming a mom, I've let go of some things. Thanks for the giveaway!

  5. I'm an occasional sports drink person. Although I really haven't found a flavor I love yet, usually I just put up with them. And as a Mom I've learned to not use the word "never", because things are always changing!

  6. I am not a sports-drink kinda gal. Water for me please. However . . . my 2 sports-minded kiddos are sport drinking kinda kids! :)

  8. It seems that I am always stocking the fridge with drinks for my daughter and her friends. I'd love to provide a drink that they think is cool but I still feel good about.

  9. My son just started playing group sports and I am a big fan of water, and non sugar drinks... but trying to get a 4 year old to drink a ton of water in the AZ heat is hard. So this drink is perfect and even better if it turns his mouth blue (what 4 year old doesn't like having a blue face???)

  10. I love sports drinks and think they're great for active kids!

  11. I would love to help my grandson's team transition from sugared-juice drinks to something like PowerAde.

    ReplyDelete
  12. My daughter is very active in soccer, softball and dance. I would love to be able to have a better, healthier alternative for her to drink.

    ReplyDelete
  13. It always amazes me when schools decide to get rid of PE. As if having healthy kids is not also having a healthy mind.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If I had a dime for each time I reversed a "I would NEVER let my kids eat/drink (insert name of something unhealthy)" decision, I would have retired years ago. I hate unnecessary colors and sweeteners, and junk food, but life is life. My kids play soccer and ice hockey, and sometimes water doesn't cut it. So if there's a better option than that "other" drink, I'm willing to give it a go! Thank you for this informative post!

  15. My boys are very athletic. One is a competitive swimmer and one is a competitive soccer player. I continue to preach that water is the best thing. A few months ago, we relented with the swimmer and started buying the Gatorade powder. It doesn't contain high fructose corn syrup. He mixes it in a pitcher and uses our re-usable water bottles. Every chance we get to reuse something, we take it!

    ReplyDelete
  16. My father-in-law drinks Gatorade and I have had to tell him to please not let my kids drink it, because of the high fructose corn syrup. When I heard they were coming out with a new sports drink that didn't have HFCS in it, I was so happy!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I've changed in that I watch what is in food products more. Especially since our toddler has food allergies and the baby might - we are still figuring that out.

I love things that don't have High fructose Corn Syrup. Great to hear it tastes good too!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Since having children. . . well it kinda spiked, when the first one was tiny there were a lot of NEVERS! white flour, sugar, anything good. Then the pendulum swung the other way. . .now it's more about moderation. I do hate soda though. . .

    ReplyDelete
  19. My boys both play sports when they can and are out in the yard when there are no team activities. I limit the sweetened beverages, and it is nice to know there is a new alternative out there.

We alway avoid red - red juice stains everything, including skin!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I've definitely had to bend my ways! Generally I don't let my kids have sports drinks for games and practices. The regular stuff has so much sugar and calories, and the diet has nutrasweet, which they shouldn't have either. But my kids hate being one of the few with water while the other kids have their sports drinks, so I do give in time to time. Powerade Play sounds like a good alternative.

    ReplyDelete
  21. My son isn't of sports drink age yet so I'm not sure if I will bend when the time comes..I'm hoping when that time comes they won't be using FD&C colors, then I will have less qualms. I can only assume with those colors, they are using artificial coloring.

  22. I can't wait to try this out! My kids are both super active, and hate that I never buy them sports drinks. Maybe this will change! Thanks for sharing!

  24. All four of my kids are on competitive teams and we go through a LOT of sports drinks and water here in hot Florida! They rehydrate and restore electrolytes much better than plain water and the kids are more apt to drink it so I do not need to worry about dehydration. Glad to hear there is another low calorie option out there!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Since having children I've also changed a lot. But the biggest change has been not from no kids to having kids but rather as my children have gotten older. Each year it seems we discover more where our priorities lie. We almost never drink sports drinks and I cringe when they give them out at school. This I would actually be willing to try!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I have two kids who play on three different sports teams each, and oh--swim season is starting! Sometimes I think sports' drinks are their many dietary food, sigh.
But their teams could use support!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Not a hippie - a foodie. I hate the taste of HFCS and artificial sweetner. I'm going to have to give this a try!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I have boys who are really into sports, and who like sports drinks.
I usually say they don't need all that sugar unless they've really been working hard and sweating a lot. I really try to avoid high fructose corn syrup, so this would be great.

    ReplyDelete
  29. looking forward to trying Powerade Play. My daughter drinks so much sports drink playing travel softball and basketball that I think we should buy stock in the company! haha

  31. Since I'm the gramma of 2 great grandbabies - one of whom is diabetic and celiac - we have learned the hard way which sports drinks to have available. Now that the kids are playing sports, Powerade is the way to go. Thank you for this great product!

    ReplyDelete
  32. My daughter competes in gymnastics and I've been looking for electrolyte replacements with less sugar. Thanks for the review!

  35. I was so happy our swim team gave out team bottles to cut down on the amount of empty plastic bottles - even though they were being recycled. As for sports drinks - we've been sticking to Zero's - also by Powerade I believe.

  36. Of course I have done those things my Mother did, that I said I would NEVER do. Now, I understand why she did them.

  37. Hi, thanks for this opportunity. I am so glad this drink is available to us. I did not know there was a drink without the yukky stuff. Thanks, I would like to try this and hope I win for my grandson's team.

  38. I'm thankful my teen son drinks more water than anything. We're doing the no HFCS thing, so this is great to know about. He definitely drinks sports drinks when they're provided at his rugby practices and games.

OK Steph, just what IS IN the drink. As a diabetic, everyone keeps shoving 'diabetic-ly' nutritious food at me. I have discovered that I am very, very sensitive to aspartame.....to the tune of a $3,000.00 hospital stress test bill. Dr. then said 'Well, it doesn't look like you have a heart problem.'
Duuuhhh, I told her that aspartame gives me chest pains and I had just consumed a diet Pepsi. Caffeine also does a number on me, so I avoid caffeine as much as possible.
I no longer consume ANYTHING with aspartame in it, including prepackaged lemonade drink mixes. There is very little out there without aspartame, even including most of, if not all, gum varieties to chew.
I also am not a fan of drinks with such high zinc contents and extra amounts of vitamins and minerals because we just do not know what these ingredients will do to our bodies.
So, what exactly is in this drink? Could we have a listing of ingredients along with the review? We live in a very small town and out local grocery will most likely not have it for me to look at. Who makes it?
    Thanks,

  41. We are a sport drink drinking family...love them. Personally, haven't seen any change...I/we have always been involved with sporting activities...especially anything involving the great outdoors. And, nothing is better than getting your kids out and away from computers and tv...and, they benefit by being active and healthy. These benefits tend to stay as you grow into adulthood. Isn't it nice to spend bonding/quality/learning time with those you love! Yep.

  47. I have a gymnast, a club soccer player and an extreme mountain biker among my 3 children. As much as I do not want to be a "sports drink" mom, my children at some time or another have had gatorade. I would love to try this new drink. (and spend 100.00 on my team also)

  60. I have never been a big sports drink user but I am open to using them. I just haven't ever really had them vvery often.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I make my own rehydration drink from OJ, water and salt. I used my math skills (I KNEW that math minor would come in handy!) to reverse engineer the amount of salt and potassium in the sports drinks. It tastes like watered down OJ, which I'm fine with, and my baby's still not a kid yet, so I can hold out a while longer. My biggest complaint about the sports drinks is the plastic waste. You know there's a Texas sized pile of garbage, mostly plastic in the pacific ocean? The fewer plastic bottles the better.

  63. True--I've changed my tune as well. After my five year old is done with gymnasatics, he too says water doesn't always cut it. I will look for this on the store shelves and give it a shot!

  75. I have changed my mind about sports drinks, especially w/ a 13yr old who has gotten dehydrated. I DO look for ones w/ less sugar & few calories and it has helped that w/ coupons, I have been able to get the individual bottles for 25 cents or less and I stock up. We tend to drink them when we have long days out of the house, but not just as a drink of choice wgen home.

  78. We typically buy sport drinks when they are on sale and look for minimal food coloring as a main point. They are drank in our household by hubby post-workout and sometimes by kiddos when on long bike rides or other high energy events (definitely not an every day or even once a week thing for the kids).

My husband would probably enjoy this, too.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I used to drink Sports Drinks but they have too many calories. I'm not a big fan. I think there are better options for kids although it is nearly impossible (read: not worth the argument) to say no when out of the house.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I wouldn't give this to my son or drink it myself as we don't do processed food/drinks. Water works just fine for hydration, and you honestly don't have to worry about replenishing electrolytes/sodium unless you're running a marathon.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I like that there is no HFCS in the drinks. We don't have sports drinks very often. We will have to try these for after soccer.

    ReplyDelete
  104. My kids drink sports drinks, I do not. I like water, they do not! I let everyone drink what they want even if it means buying 15 different kinds of beverages. It would be nice if we all like the same thing.

    ReplyDelete
  105. My kids haven't had it (yet), but I like sports drinks when I'm sick. Only red, though. I actually do lots of things as a parent that I never thought I'd do, but they fall on the crunchier side of things - like cloth diapers and natural childbirth with a midwife and doula!

    ReplyDelete
  106. I don't usually like sports drinks for the kids, but this would make a great post-game drink for the soccer team.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I do all sorts of "I will never" or "My kids won't" type things all the time. I haven't done sports drinks yet, but if these really have no HFCS, I'll take a closer look!

    ReplyDelete
  108. My kids have had their share of sports drinks-usually only when they are participating in an official 'sport' not just to drink around the house. I don't care for them myself (I need the fizz :))but this low-cal option would be a good choice. Thanks for a chance to win!

    ReplyDelete
  109. We don't do sports drinks due to the artificial colors...we have a kiddo allergic to food coloring. Glad to see that the company is catching on & not adding HFCS. Wish they would just leave out the fake colors & flavors. :)

  110. We don't do sports drinks, except when my son is sick. Then I'll give him whatever I can to get the fluids and electrolytes that he needs.

    ReplyDelete
  111. I'm not a mom yet, but I've always avoided the sports drinks because of all the sugar and HFCS (except when I'm deathly ill and it's all I can keep down!). I always figured I would do the same with my kids, but the Powerade Play sounds like a great alternative. And I know how responsible Stephanie is with the food she gives her kids, so I would totally follow her lead with confidence!

  112. Single dad here ...

Never have been into sports much myself and am blessed with a son who is a sports nut. Luckily, he's very, very athletic himself.

Have tried these and LOVE them. Better list of ingredients (no HFCS). I take these to the games for my son to drink when other team parents bring sweetened corn syrup drinks for after practice and games.

Hard to make your kid drink just water when the others are having something "fun" but this solves the problem. We are both happy now.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Yeah, there were lots of "never wills" before I had kids. But then you learn that "never" is usually a bad idea (except for things like seatbelts and bike helmets). We are not big on juice or sports drinks, but I let her have them sometimes because I don't want to say "never". I'll probably try this product and see how she likes it.

    ReplyDelete
  114. We currently don't drink any sports drinks. However, should my child take up a sport when she gets older, I would probably buy some for her. She seems to take after me and I get dehydrated easily. When I used to spend a lot of time outdoors I thought they were great at keeping me from keeling over better than water did.

    ReplyDelete
  115. I currently do not allow my kids any sports drinks but hubby (who is celiac) loved Gatorade. I may have to try out this drink now.

    ReplyDelete
  116. My husband plays sports every weekend, and coaches a high school team, and he drinks a sports drink. I know the kids (7th-12th grade) drink sports drink during tournaments, which usually run all day and are very intensive, so if our son was playing, I would let him drink it.

As for myself, I can't stand the taste usually.

  117. woulda, shoulda, coulda. i say them all. thanks for the review and feedback.

    ReplyDelete
  118. This would be great - my son starts soccer in the fall! Thank you for the giveaway, Steph - and all the great recipes too. I'm adding the garlic spoon bread on my "to try" list :)

    ReplyDelete
  119. Never won any of these things yet, but it sure would be fun if I did. :) Anyway, I actually don't drink sports drinks myself; I'm more of a water/tea person. My daughter likes the "other" drink as a treat from time to time, so this might be a better option since it has no HFCS! Cool!

Oh, my goodness, I would have to write a book on the things I've changed on since becoming a parent! Aren't we all perfect parents until we have kids? ;)

  120. My active daughters drink this. (And I once was a mom who said never...ha!)

  121. We love sports drinks when playing outside the the HOT Texas heat. As a mom I have learned to never say NEVER.

  123. I am not a sports drink person. I have been known to use them instead of Pedilite when my kids were sick....much cheaper and close enough to the same thing (electrolytes and water).

    ReplyDelete
  124. We occasionally use sports drinks. My son is just 4 and just starting t-ball - so he hasn't started drinking them yet.

Before kids, I always said I would NEVER let my child have any temporary tattoos - I thought they were so tacky. Yeah - my kid is now covered in them. :)

    ReplyDelete
  125. I would rather they drink water and milk, but fun drinks every once in awhile are okay.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Love the review--maybe I'll stock up for the summer because my kids have already taken to being gone all day playing their hearts out. And I know my husband loves them.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Thanks for the review. It's nice to know about some of the alternative sports drinks.

  128. I would love to try this! Sports drinks are great for working out and team sports. scg00387 at yahoo dot com

  129. We live in Arizona so keeping hydrated is important! This powerAde looks great!

    ReplyDelete
  130. I look forward to trying this drink. I think the fact that it has no high fructose corn syrup is great. Change is neccessary.

    ReplyDelete
  131. I'm not a sports drink person but my son loves to drink them after working out.

  133. I have 19 mth old twins and a 6 mth old. I find I do a LOT of things I said I'd NEVER do. My son eats fries (homemade, bag, fast food) at least once a day. He is 19 months and still gets a jar of baby food just to make me feel better ....he only wants to eat fries and bananas...HELP! Anyways....I have done good holding out on sugary drinks but love powerade products...esp. more than gatorade.....I love the 0 cal powerade for myself!
    Hope I win!!!

  134. I am glad to see more beverages without HFCS. If they can take the next step and get rid of the artificial coloring and ingredients then they will have something I will buy. Until then, I will send my children to practice with water in their BPA free bottles.

    ReplyDelete
  135. My son is starting football in the heat of the summer.. I'm thinking this is going to be the ticket for him!

    Thanks. :)

  136. I'm glad that there is no HFCS as I really do try to stay away from it. I have been stocking the fridge with sports drinks more lately...as long as I read the label first! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  137. I'm not a sports drink person --usually. But I keep them on hand for hubby & teenager for after they do yard work. Having an additional two smaller children more or less back-to-back (and the accompanying sleep deprivation) is what changed me from a granola-chick mom to a whatever-works mom. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  138. We are not a sports drink family. However, after reading your review, I may try it! And, I feel the same way about many "I nevers".

    ReplyDelete
  139. With two teenage boys sharing tennis, paintball, airsoft, longboarding, snowboarding and skiing between them, sports drinks are a big part of their daily activity. As an EMT I recommend that they alternate water with a sports drink to stay hydrated in the summer, especially on the humid days. We look for the lowest sugar versions.

  141. I'm sure my kids would rise up and call me blessed if I gave them something to drink at sports besides water! I LOVE that PowerAde has no high fructose corn syrup, so I may have to bend and buy some for them. Thanks for the great review!

  143. I'm not a sports drink person, at 61 I didn't grow up with them, but I have a lot of young friends and family so I am happy to be able to direct them to something better than what I see them drink now.

  144. I am a better person because of my kids.

    ReplyDelete
  145. We have 5 kids from 3 yrs to 12 yrs and they are all very active. As we go through the week and everyone does their daily chores, they're given a "score" based on their performance, attitude, completion, etc. At the end of the week I give the winner a prize, most often a food or drink. These types of drinks make a perfect prize; they're excited to get it and it's NOT CANDY!!!

    ReplyDelete
  146. We frequently need to supply drinks like this for our kids sports teams. I would go for one with less calories. And yes, as time passes, I become more and more lax on my "healthy" habits with them.

  148. I've been drinking Powerade Zero for the last couple of years when i run, but mostly just in the summer. I don't do sugar well and had stomach issues with regular Powerade and Gatorade. Occassionally, my childen want a sports drink but I only allow it once in a while, between HFCS and red food dye, it can be a challenge. Very relieved to hear that the one sponsoring this is HFCS-free.

  149. Things I said "I'd never" that I've since done now that I'm a mom? I could tell you but we'd be here till next year. Being a mom has taught me, more than anything, the importance of being flexible!

I'm excited to read this review because we are always looking for good sports drinks to keep in the tack room at the barn for after riding lessons. It gets hot and dusty when the kids have been caring for the horses in the sun all afternoon, and they sure appreciate having something besides plain water!

    ReplyDelete
  150. I love encouraging my kids in sports! They are currently cheering me on as I play softball. I love powerade zero!

    ReplyDelete
  151. I love that this new Powerade has less sugar and is fortified because my kids always drink Gatorade or Powerade during & after practices and games.

I have definitely changed since becoming a Mom; I am less judgemental of myself and other parents because this is a tough gig.

    ReplyDelete
  152. My son doesn't like sports drinks for some reason. I drink a decent amount of Gatorade, however, because of a tendency to get dizzy if I don't stay hydrated. The main reason I drink the brand/flavor I do is because it comes in a powder with no HFCS and I can mix it at different strengths.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Steph, your review totally changed my opinion on sports drinks. Well, this one at any rate. I'm going to give the orange one a shot this weekend...I still can't think about the blue. Maybe next month. Thanks for such a candid, thoughtful review! Stephanie

  154. I'm not really a sports drink kind of person. I keep some on hand for my bunnies and dogs though- you can never tell when they are going to need it. Especially my corgi who suffers from random poop explosions if she stresses out.

    ReplyDelete
  155. My teenage son is an avid runner and on his school's track and cross country teams. He loves Powerade!

    ReplyDelete
  156. There are a few things I do that I swore I wouldn't. But I never really thought about sports drinks. I haven't tried this one. But haven't ever liked any I've tried. Maybe I should see if this one is better.

    ReplyDelete
  157. I am not a sports drink person but I have bought lots of them over the years for the teams my three children play on. I have changed a few of my ideas but have remained steadfast on the important things.

    ReplyDelete
  158. Every once in awhile I will let my kids have a sports drink. I think I will let them try PowerAde Play.

  159. I giggle now at the "Oh I would Nevers" People crack me up now, I just keep reminding them oh one day you'll be like me laughing in the corner and no I haven't gone completely mad :).

Oh yes the boys love sports drinks the best for working in the yard, keeps you going ;)

    ReplyDelete
  160. I used to drink Powerade all the time when I was more active - I should get back in the habit!

    ReplyDelete
  161. Yes and no, there are many things that I vowed I would never do once I had children that I now do, BUT my son also has many food allergies so finding processed foods that he can actually have has become quite the challenge. My husband is a sports drink kind of guy because he works a physically demanding job, but my son is a juice & milk drinker and I tend towards water & soda (eek)

    ReplyDelete
  162. Things I said I'd never do: homeschool my children; yell at my children; act like my parents; give my kids junk food.

Thing's I've done since becoming a parents: homeschool my children; yell at my children; act like my parents; give my kids junk food.

OK, so I held off on the junk pretty well, and there's a lot they still haven't had (soda comes immediately to mind), but they've had their fair share of candy and chips, among other bad-for-them treats. It's fun now, however, to watch them experience a new treat - for the first time EVER!

    ReplyDelete
  163. I cant wait to try powerade. Since I became a mother I am very aware of what my children are putting in their bodies. I hate giving him the sports drinks because of the high sugar but now this product is great,

    ReplyDelete
  164. I have changed thinking about what goes into our bodies after I had kids too. This sounds like something worth trying. My kids don't do a lot of sports but their favorite activity outside school is the ministry. Talking to people about God. They are great at it and are very cooperative and show a lot of determination about what their future holds. I'm so proud of them!! Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  165. I generally don't buy the sports drinks because of the artificial color and flavor (nothing in nature is THAT blue!) but I'm going to check ou the label on this one next time I'm at the store.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Seeing as my husband and I are quite athletic- we don't keep soft drinks and junk food in our house. Powerade or Gatorade on occasion after a long mountainbike ride or road ride rocks. My children, on the other hand are sugar junkies. (coughing)... they picked this habit up at grandmas, not our home! Sounds like we may like to try it since there is no "poison",aka high fructose corn syrup in these.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Life really does change when your kids start school and start sports! Life becomes very active and being able to grab something "healthy" for your kids..on the go matters!

  168. My daughter loves getting drinks that belong just to her so would love to try this.

    ReplyDelete
  169. I love your crock pot recipes, Steph.

Yes this did surprise me to see it on your site. But as children get older you have to relinquish control; that's what growing up is about. If they are going to drink something other than water anyway, why not guide them in a wise choice? I'm willing to give it a look.

That being said, I'm disappointed that both your site and the Powerade site fail to show the label. Yes I want to know ALL the ingredients, every single one, including the toll free number to find out exactly what "natural flavors", or "inactive ingredients" and other doublespeak consist of. IF those are on the ingredients list.

But your blog convinced me to at least check it out the next time I'm at the store.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Yes, being a mom has changed me a lot... I don't typically use sports drinks but recently, I've started training for a half marathon. Since doing so was also part of losing weight, I closely look at what I do drink, knowing I do need to replace what I've depleted on long runs, but I don't want to do so to the tune of 200+ calories. Given your review, I'd consider letting my kids try it, but they're young still and while busy, aren't in to high requirement sports like long distance running, etc. So for them for now, I'll still stick to the good old stand bys... :)

    ReplyDelete
  171. Keeping up with my two kiddos (ages one and two) is a sport all on its own. PowerAde would be helpful some days!

  174. I'll drink them here and there. But I'd rather choose water. Mostly, I try not to buy sports drinks and then there isn't the temptation to drink them.

    ReplyDelete
  175. I have five active boys in the Texas heat and we are always looking for healthy ways to keep them hydrated! Yay for no HFCS!

  176. I've changed a T.O.N. during my Mom Years.

But sports drinks and almost any single-person bottled drinks we just don't do.

I'm the mean mom; I tell my kids, "that's why God made water - so go get some!"

    Johanna

    ReplyDelete
  177. Yes, I have changed since having children, although for the better. Realizing I couldn't "control" them per se, my other controlling tendencies have become fewer. I enjoy life more this way! =) This review was good--no HFCS? I'll bet it's sweetened with fructose...now if only it did not have artificial colorings and flavorings... Thanks for the giveaway!!

    ReplyDelete
  178. I think all mom's have to change when they start having kids. Your expectations of how much you can control are wrong before the little one's get here.

We don't use sports drinks often, but do on occassion. I am glad to hear that this is a low cal option. I don't like giving my kids unnecessary sugary drinks.

    ReplyDelete
  179. I have children that range in age from 7 to 24. Not only have I changed from what I thought I would be as a mom, I have changed during all of the years I have been a mom.

We cycle together as a family and sports drinks are part of our routine. My kids love the orange Powerade, we haven't found blue yet.

  180. I've certainly changed since becoming a mom. Someone told me that I had "lost myself" somewhere along the way. I assured them that I was never "lost" but that I had given myself to my husband and children! I still have a great time, but it is so much different now! Even better!
My kids LOVE sports drinks. My hubs brings them home for the kids and they squeal! I also like to take them on outings to the park instead of water bottles because I believe it helps keep them hydrated.

    ReplyDelete
  181. We are definitely a sports drink family and now with kids in the mix, they want to try some too. Glad Powerade is catering to a younger audience now too.

    ReplyDelete
  182. Hey Steph! Of course becoming a Mom has changed me! In lots of neat and good ways! It's inevitable! My kids never liked pedialyte or anything like that, and when they would get sick (flu or other tummy problems) I worried so much about hydrating them that anything they would drink (except juice) was okay by me! They like gatorade etc when they get a rare treat of it, but definietly would love getting some free powerade stuff that has no hfs in it! Thanks so much!

    ReplyDelete
  183. I love the fact that there is no high fructose corn syrup! Can't wait to try it!

    ReplyDelete
  184. My boys play all sports and need the hydration. They LOVED the blue and it seemed to do the trick. I will be buying this product!

  185. I used this when I had the stomach flu-really HATE the other drink but this one was ok.

    ReplyDelete
  186. I have two very active boys, the oldest is just getting into sports. He likes gatorade after he's been running around like a maniac, but we haven't tried powerade. I'll have to give it a try!

    ReplyDelete
  187. I'm not a mom, but I AM likely to say, "I would NEVER..." and then run out and do that very thing. Sports drinks fall into that category for sure. Sometimes they just taste better than water, and I like the idea that they COULD be better for me, in moderation. I'll have to give this one a try.

    ReplyDelete
  188. "BC"... before children, i used to say my kids would never have candy, sugared drinks,etc....even went so far as to try to make home made baby food....one time!! said forget this. but i did try to only give sugary things in moderation, and they have turned out just fine...my oldest just graduated from college a couple of weeks ago with a teaching degree( well that may not be to smart at this time!). Yahoo!!!

    ReplyDelete
  189. I have learned as a MOM that 'never say never". I just will have to try this sports drink because I am looking for something else for my kids to drink. They are tired of the juice boxes and pouches. This looks really good!

    ReplyDelete
  190. My kids aren't quite old enough for sports (2, and 7 months), but my husband and I drink sports drinks when working out or doing yard work. As hot as it gets here in Houston, we definitely need something to replenish our electrolytes!

    ReplyDelete
  191. I just saw this at the store and will give it a try because all the chemicals and/or sugars are just not cool- maybe this drink will be good for me. L_arkfeld at sbcglobal dot net Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  192. I'm not opposed to sports drinks, but it isn't something I typically keep in the house. But at only 60 calories each, it might be nice to have something for the kids (and us adults too!) to have a little variety.

    ReplyDelete
  193. I'm not a sports drink person, but my kids love it. I'm into water and coffee....and occasionally a grape soda!

    ReplyDelete
  194. Not a sports drink person at all... but my male friends are and they'd probably down this in a heartbeat with so few calories.
